So the goal is to find the number of letters that's in between the top and bottom letters and then add all of those together. If I add them properly I get 42 (17+21+15+14+(8)+(6)+3+(14)). If I treat the negative numbers as positive, I get 54. The site accepts neither of these.

After reading all the posts in this thread, including the complete answer, I can only conclude that there is an error. I have checked my math over and over. The answer is a twodigit number that is one bigger than it should be.
