Some of the numbers on the page run into the binding (as well as the circled a. Are those important?

Thanks

the circled a is, but only as an origin point, and the symbol it's connected to is onwards a bit.

I'm not getting this.
Spoiler!
I'm interpreting the light as the flash on a phone, since the diagram looks exactly like an iPhone. So I'm thinking that I'm supposed to measure the angles of the lines with the level function in the compass app. But the numbers I'm getting when I multiply the angles aren't getting there. Am I on the wrong track? I certainly am not using the "pencil" clue.

have you tried something simpler? Look up at the top where it shows the light hit a circle and there's a darker circle behind that.

Ok, so I got that you use the flashlight on the camera and have a pencil in the middle and the shadow will fall on the number. However, the camera and flashlight on my moto is in the middle and not on the side, like in the picture, and I think it is causing me to get the wrong numbers.

Spoiler!
It's just a light. I never considered it to be phone-related. Place your light source at the indicated point.
