I'll pile on that the font chosen for both the book text and the answer website text is...sub-optimal. I had the correct key for puzzle 13, then my spouse "corrected" it to the wrong word, and then after looking in this forum we realized we should've gone with the original reading.

the keys can refer to a type of gasket lock and the background diagram is an example of a sierpinski triangle. Now the problem is that there is a type of mathmatical sierpinski diagram called the sierpinski gasket. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ANY OF THIS. The written clue is far more important than any of the nonsense I was looking into.
