1) Finish the caption at the bottom of the page using keys 9 (Quest) and 8 (Ion).

2) merged together, keys 9 and 8 become a single word -- 'Question'

Below is two more hints leading to the solution. Do not click unless you've covered the first two hints.

3) '. . .that is the question' is the last part of a famous line from a famous English play. In fact, many scholars argue that this is the greatest line from the greatest play by the greatest playwright to have ever lived. This would (conceivably) make it the greatest line in English theatre.

4) The play is 'Hamlet'. The answer to the riddle is the last name of the man who wrote the play, spelled the way he spelled it when he was alive (a touch antiquated by todays standards). . .

Can anyone offer an explanation as to what 4 skulls, two of which are mirror images, has anything to do with anything for this clue?

In Shakespeare's Hamlet, the main character is traveling and comes across the grave of an old trusted mentor of his when he was a boy. He takes the skull from the grave and meditates on life, death, and his own circumstances. As he holds the skull, he says the famous line 'To be or not to be, that is the question'. So, it is fitting that this puzzle, keyed by the phrase 'that is the question', and whose answer is 'Shakespeare' would have skulls in it. It's from the play.
