I'm so stuck. What am I seeing? A bunch of lines going into the distance?!

This is a simple and purely visual puzzle. Everything you need is right on the page, and it requires no outside information or other parts of the book. Below are 2 hints leading to the solution, which is a common 8 letter word.

1) The key to this puzzle is to do as the page says and 'tilt' the book to look at the page from a drastically different angle than simply straight on.

2) Hold the book open so you are looking at the page. Now, hold it at eye level and tilt it away from you so that the bottom of the page is close to your eyes and the top is away from you. Your point of view should be at the very bottom of the page with your gaze traveling up the page to the top. As you do, the long vertical lines on the page shorten into finite letters that spell a word
