This is a difficult puzzle that makes you look closely and see numbers in different ways. Below is a graded hint system leading to the solution. It assumes you know keys 22, 31, 41, and 42. If you don't know them, do not continue.
Spoiler!
1) You can ignore all of the artwork and symbols on the page. The only thing that matters here is the 2-word combos and the number attached to them. You use the first four 2-word combos as examples to discover the 'rules' of the puzzle (i.e. why the 2 words make the number associated with them), and then apply those same rules to the 2 'keyword' combos at the bottom. The answer to the puzzle--ultimately--is a four digit number.
Spoiler!
2) The bones/skull combo is associated with 101, but it isn't 'one hundred and one'. Its better read as 'ten and once' as evidenced by the darker bold font of the 10 and the lighter font of the 1. Likewise the ribs/top combo isn't 'seventy', but better read as 'seven and none'. What about 'bones' and 'skull' make 10? What about 'ribs' and 'top' make 7? What about 'femur' and 'edge' make 9?
Spoiler!
3) Likewise, what in 'bones' and 'skull' occurs only once? What in 'ribs' and 'top' doesn't occur? What in 'femur' and 'edge' occurs 3 times?
The key to solving the rule system for this puzzle is:
Spoiler!
4) The first digits of the number of a combo is the sum of the letters in both words. The last digit is how many times the letter 'E' occurs in both words. For example, the bones/skull combo has 10 letters in both words, and the letter E occurs once -- hence 101. The ribs/top combo has 7 letters in both words, and the letter E doesn't occur -- hence 70.
Spoiler!
5) Now, apply the rule system to the keyword combos 'pieces/spine' and 'feet/link'. You will get '113' and '82' respectively.
And the final answer is below. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER!!
Spoiler!
6) The 'x' between the question marks tells you to multiply the numbers together, so 113 X 82 = 9266 and is the answer

I was thinking that the bold number is the number of letters in the words combined. This works for all of them. The lite number is the number of repeating letters between the two words. This works for all except the first one. I assumed that was another error similar to the one on page 42. But then I can't get the solution. A nudge would be greatly appreciated.
42 doesn't have an error.

it's an English book so the dates follow the format dd/mm/yyyy. Google changes these to the American when you search it
Don't think the book itself has any errors other than user/Google ones

42 certainly does have an error.

In England, 08-07-1974 is July 8, 1974...Which is a Monday, not a Tuesday.

I agree with brutism. There is definitely an error in page 42
