Put it into the message on the page.

Then read the message on the page.

Then think about that. Think about anatomy. Think about what you're holding in your hands.

This puzzle relies on using the book as a whole to help you solve it (like several other puzzles do). It also requires a bit of easily-obtained outside knowledge once you are confident you are on the right track. Below is a graded hint system leading to the final solution. It assumes you know {key.31}. If you don't know it, then don't continue.
Spoiler!
1) The essential part of the page is for you to do as the book commands and 'check the {key.31}'. All else on this page can be ignored.
Spoiler!
2) Inserting key.31 into the phrase makes the command. 'Check the spine'. Do so.
Spoiler!
3) 'The spine' you need to check is not made of bone, it is made of paper and you are holding it in your hands.
Spoiler!
4) Checking the spine of the book will reveal the number '29' at the top and -- more importantly -- a coded series of dots and dashes at the bottom. The coded word is the answer to this puzzle.
Spoiler!
5) The code is Morse Code. Google 'morse code translator' to find some easy online tools to help you decipher this 4-letter word.
And the answer is below. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER!!
