So the goal is to find the number of letters that's in between the top and bottom letters and then add all of those together. If I add them properly I get 42 (17+21+15+14+(-8)+(-6)+3+(-14)). If I treat the negative numbers as positive, I get 54. The site accepts neither of these.
Double check the second to last number. Almost there.

Below are the first two hints that will get you started moving in the right direction. It assumes you know [key.17] and [key.18]. If you don't know them, go back and find them and do not try doing this puzzle yet.
Spoiler!
1) The 2 key words needed are 'accentor' and 'systemic'. Notice that they both have 8 letters each and there is a row of 8 boxes at the top of the page, and another row of 8 boxes at the bottom of the page. Put the words in them. The fact that they are grouped in sets of 3 2 3 is irrelevant and meaningless to getting the solution.

2) Notice that the '17' is between the A in 'accentor' and the S in 'systemic'.

Below are two more hints that lead you to the solution. Do not read the spoiler unless you are stuck after reading my 'first two hints' post.
Spoiler!
3) The reason 17 is between A and S is because there are 17 letters in the alphabet that lie between them. B is the first and R is the 17th. We are moving in a forward direction up the alphabet chain.

4) When we get to N (and it's counterpart E below it) we need to move backward down the alphabet chain (from M to F) and the number will be negative. M is -1 and F ends up being -8, which is this columns answer (like 17 is for A and S above).

Below are the final two hints to solving this riddle, do not click the spoiler button unless you're stuck after reading my previous hint posts.
Spoiler!
5) With all 8 columns of letter gaps accounted for, you should have the following sequence of numbers: 17 21 15 14 -8 -6 -5 -14

6) Simply add them all together algebraically to get the final answer.

Your only error is that O to I is not 3, it's -5

After reading all the posts in this thread, including the complete answer, I can only conclude that there is an error. I have checked my math over and over. The answer is a two-digit number that is one bigger than it should be.

To be honest, I got this one by using the wrong method and ignoring the numbers on the page.
Spoiler!
I just found the numerical value between each letter and added those. Since there are four odd and four even numbers, it didn't make a difference.
