okay, I have the two keys for to and bottom. I'm trying alpha numeric substitutions but am I adding 17 to the first box, or is that the cake if the top, bottom or sum? Same with -14. Also what kind of answer are we looking for, letters, numbers, if so, how many? There's just a lot of ways to work this and no real clues as to the direction you should take. There's also the gap between letters but what to do with it. It's frustrating to just need that little extra hint.

But add what? that's what i'm getting at. Are we adding the words together? So A plus S equals T? Or the difference between them (minus one for some reason is 17) and the next two letters? Does that form a simple sum or a longer number? Are we combining three numbers, two more and then three more? Making a 6 digit number or are we adding all three lumps together making a 2 digit number? Cause I've done a few of these variations. I mean, don't get me wrong, I appreciate the help, but I do a fair amount of work, sleep on it, and try it again before coming for help.

Don't worry, I got it, but still think it could go a few different ways.

this won't make any sense at first. Write the key 17 at the top in the spaces almost designed for it. Then do the same on the bottom with 18. There's a pattern relating to those numbers attached to the lines. Add them up.

Could you please explain it a little further. I just don't get it. ;)

assign a value to each letter use the end lines to determine a pattern. The math is consistent, if not intuitive.
