I get the idea, but I have no clue what this word is. Any more hints on what kind of word to think of?

So, I did solve this. I did it two ways. 1. I had a kid look at it. 2. I did use a crossword solver to narrow it down. This is just a guessing game for those that are frustrated (trial and error)

. Think of sports and school for a hint.

I read through all of these posts and I still can solve it. :( Just to be clear it’s a four letter word that begins with T and ends with R correct? I’ve tried many combinations. Please, if anyone can, help me with this.

Ok, I figured it out. In my book they have an R at the end of the word, but it doesn’t end with R.

To be clear, the "r" at the end is just like the key words, it's at the end. so the word you are looking for does NOT end with r, but does become a new word when an r is tacked on to the end. Just be sure to take your time.

I just had to resort to reading this thread to get this one.

What I think is confusing people the most, is the number of dashes for each word. Usually the number of dashes denotes how many letters are in each word, but when you have for example, 4 dashes, and you have a 3 or 5 letter word to fit in that space, it doesn't make sense.

If that makes sense.

Below are some graded hints leading to the solution. It assumes you know keys 67-69. If you don’t know them, then don’t continue. . .
Spoiler!
Just like page 71, you are tasked with adding a root word to a keyword to make a new common English word. The answer is the 4 letter root word that is common to the other four in the series.
Spoiler!
What 4 letter word can you add before '. . . .less', '. . . .out', '. . . .table', and '. . . .r' to make 4 other common words?
Spoiler!
The answer to this riddle is the same as one that Gollum asked Bilbo (and Bilbo guessed correctly by pure chance) in JRR Tolkien's 'The Hobbit'.
Spoiler!
As mentioned in other posts in this thread, the 4-letter word answer begins with a T and ends with an E

And the solution is below. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER!!
