This might help:
Spoiler!
On the webpage where you enter the answer to this puzzle it says: 1, 15, 30, 36, 51.
If you can hold the book so that you can just see the bottom left of just those pages you can see how the dot has moved.

Cool puzzle. What I could never figure out is:
Spoiler!
What the 1, 15, 30, 36, 51 have to do with anything. If you look at them closely, they don't match the apex points of the dot trail. It should be 1, 14, 27, 40, 53 if that was the purpose of the sequence.
Nevertheless, the answer is below. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER!!

I have read every single clue and the answer and have no idea how you solve this. I don't know if there's a printing issue with my book (unlikely) or what, but the **** ball just jumps around like crazy. There is no discernible pattern for me. Someone help!

I’m not sure what your page looks like, but I have no bouncing ball on my page. Half the numbers mentioned aren’t on my page either. Someone else mentioned a printing error, I’m beginning to think they are right.

What some are calling the 'bouncing ball' or a 'dot' is the dot on pages 1 to 53 inclusive (bottom left hand corner). Flip thru these pages (watching the path the dot appears to follow)

Spoiler!
I must've gotten a screwy printing of the book, the dot does not trace out what it is intended to trace out for me.
