Per physics, it's one thing. If you work it out to one set of measurements, another. But do you write that letter? Nope. Do you write the number? Nope. Do you write the number with units of measurement? Nope.

make sure you assign the right values to each letter, make sure you're measuring the gaps between in the same way that the first and last sample show you.
Add and subtract until you've got an answer.

Think of those dots as the corners of an LED display. Each key will use certain ones. Play around with that.

Write the top key in the spaces at the top, write the bottom key on the bottom, find the gaps between the numbers (the first and last letters have their gaps pre-calculated for you to teach how to find the gaps) add them up.
